I hate rain but today I went to ICU on foot. It's just what I do when I feel like listening to music♪ I also didn't want to spend 210yen for bus! It's tooooo expensive! In my hometown, there is Kappa-go (name of a small bus) which is ran by city and it's free to ride. so let's do demo guys^_^
anyways-
In today's class, there was a lady visitor from monbu-kagakusyo and as always, Rab taught us many interesting and incredible stuff. First we were given handouts about arguments and assumptions. Some assumptions were easy to catch and some were not. I needed to extend my imagination so that I could think of people living in completely different surroundings from myself. Most of the time I missed some points and couldn't find specific assumptions.
After that, we got into groups and tried to find assumptions in What Went Wrong? . This was so fun and was amazing to know cultural and religious ways of thinking in other countries! Rad also let us discuss about to what extent one can keep his/her cultural habit. As in saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," I thought one should adapt oneself to the new environment in order to get along well with local people. But in case of super-duper strong alcohol..... hmm I need to rethink about my point of view (oh anyways, I'm still under twenty).
We're living in a global society and may have a lot of chances to encounter people from different cultures. When we get to know each other, it's always essential not to have assumptions and we need to face differences between people. I guess I really need to read and learn about the Scottish before I go to Edinburgh for SEA program!^^
Our visitor was not from Monbukagakusho - I was only joking, as I said in class. She was actually from a publishing company that is thinking about doing a book about critical thinking and English language education in Japan like ICU does! I mentioned this as well in class but you'l need to get used to the Scottish sense of humour for the SEA program!!!;)
