CHAPTER3

This chapter gives us more examples of differences between Western-style and East Asian-style of thinking. I partly agree with Nisbitt's statements and partly don't. He says that Asians' goal for selves in society is not so much to establish superiority of uniqueness, but to achieve harmony within a network of relationships. This is changing in 2010. I think it's true that Asians( all I know is about Japaneses though ) are looking for coexistence in the society, but being superior and unique are very important too. I heard that nowadays, Companies hire people with more talents and original ways of thinking.

By the way, I went to see J[Joker] performed by Smooth Steppers tonight!
it was sooooo cool!
I want to cheer my friends on the stage, so someone please take part in Smooth Steppers ^^

today's class record

We made groups and talked about progress in our essays. It was good to know what they were actually doing. They seemed to have same problems with me! Then, Rad told us to make another group with a person who had a different point of view. Sayaka gave me a chance to reconsider my approach to the topic and it was very helpful.

By the way, Rab's magic was fantastic!
Since I just sat and thought nothing, I couldn't figured out the trick -w-;

CHAPTER2

I never thought about WHY I (Easterner) think in my way and Westerners think in their ways. However, this chapter stated that ecologies of ancient Greece and China were very different which led to differences in their surroundings and habits of mind.

It was interesting to read that Greeks were in habits of arguing with each other through trade and Chinese cooperated with one another to live in harmony because of rice farming. It made sense to me that these necessary social actions changed people's way of thinking which corresponded with regional characteristics.

oh, by the way, my room key is back!

omg-m-;

Today in ICU I got a very nice boy friend who does many fantastic works for my essay.
He only works for me because I share a secret password with him.
He keeps all records of books, news articles and so many other things I want to see.

I love him so much!

CHAPTER1

This chapter tells us many differences about the way of thinking between Greece and China. It was interesting to know that Greeks emphasized on themselves as individuals while Chinese on harmony of humans. To me, the meaning of the sign of the Tao was surprising. I had seen the sign many times in my life but didn't even know that it came from China.

To be honest, I only understood the last half of this chapter where it comes to science and mathematics in Greece and China. It's maybe because I'm not so used to read about philosophy since I mainly studied science in high school. I want to read it again after I read the next chapter (if I still have power to do so).

21st

Today Rab told us about a basic structure of an essay.
When I was is America, I had some classes about English writing so I thought I knew how to write an essay, which was totally wrong (or maybe I just forgot). By given many examples by Rab's talk, now I have much better idea about what an academic essay is.

By the way, has any one seen my room key?-_-;
I think I lost it! I'm now at Natsuko's room~~~^w^haha

19th&20th class record

I totally forogt to write blog and surprised to see that others are posting class records! X(

19th---We discussed the Meiland and talked why modern Japanese tend not to hold demonrations. My idea was that they had less interest in changing the world because they were living in such a peaceful country. We also had some time to think about the topic of essay, which I'm still thinking...

20th---We finished the Meiland and discussed mainly about the essay topics. I found it difficult to come up with the essay topic without assumptions and dogmas.

What Rab says in classes are interesting to listen, though I don't have enough knowlege for politics and economics...(-_-)
